I'm Victoria Sawyer and I want to work at Shopify
I want to be a Software Developer - New Grad. As expected for this position, I don't have any formal programming experience. Let me tell you about the experience that I do have.
In 2014 I graduated from Advertising and Marketing Communications at Algonquin College, focusing on graphic design. After college I started freelancing as a web developer. I had only the knowledge that I had picked up on my own over the past couple years and a single basic web design class from the previous semester. I'm great at figuring things out as I go and I'm not easily scared off by big projects so I wasn't afraid to jump right in.
So far, in my year of freelancing I've learned PHP, jQuery, Javascript, LESS, and have learned to use the content management systems Joomla and Wordpress. And of course, in the past few weeks I've learned Liquid and the Shopify CMS in order to create this site.
The skills I'm offering you here would make me a great addition to the Shopify team. I can jump in and adapt quickly. With my Advertising background I'm a great designer and communicator. If given the opportunity to work there I know that I will gain valuable experience and knowledge exclusive to Shopify and that I promise that Shopify would only benefit from hiring me on as their newest Software Developer.

Almost all of the programming I've learned until now has been self taught. If I don't know how to do something, I learn it myself.
Creative Thinking
I'm a great creative thinker. I'm split almost evenly between being right and left brained. I come up with creative solutions and don't need to be given all the steps to reach the answer.
Resourcefulness
I'm a resourceful person and can adapt to new situations or unexpected scenarios quickly. I'm great at figuring out where to find answers with as many or as few tools as are given to me.
Patience
I'm a really patient person so I can deal with difficult people and big work loads. I love digging deep into code and making it work.
Determination
I can be a very determined person. I get excited about challenges and am able to keep the big picture in sight in order to keep on track.
Attention to Detail
I'm great at paying attention to detail and love getting deep into every part of the work I do until it is perfect.
Risk Taking
I'm not afraid to take some risks. I love to try new or unconventional ways if it means coming to the solution.
Easy Going
I know how to stay cool under pressure and keep a level head, even in the busiest environment or with the shortest deadlines.
